A little information about me...

Hello! I’m Alice. Swimming and triathlon are my life (after my family, of course!) - I teach and coach swimming to all ages and levels of swimmers but with a particular interest in coaching older children and adults in multi-sport swimming & open water. I'm always willing to help, advise, encourage or just talk about swimming and triathlon. I believe in inclusivity in our sports and the importance of enjoyment and longevity in sport, not just coaching those who compete at a high level.

Since 2015 I have qualified regularly for the GB age-group team in Sprint Triathlon and Aquathlon for the World and European Championships. I enjoy racing Triathlon and Aquathlon, I also take part in road running, sportives and open water swimming events, sometimes competitively and often just for fun and participation.

I am Lead Coach at Meridian Triathlon club. I have involved in club swimming since 2011, firstly at Royston SC where I was a parent, committee member, official. I developed my coaching skills there becoming Interim Head Coach for over a year and more recently as a squad coach Hoddesdon SC. I have now moved to City of Cambridge SC as Lead Para Coach. I coach swimmers of all levels and ages including para-swimming with the aim of improving performance and fitness through developing a foundation of good technique and love of the sport.

My coaching style is empathic and engaged. I believe strongly in integrity and ethical behaviour. Putting the participant first and ensuring safety, welfare and fun in every session.

how i teach:

I have been fortunate to work with several swim Head Coaches who taught me the importance of embedding good technique. This is how I now teach and coach all of my swimmers - no matter what their goal or age. Training for technique may take patience & time but long term pays dividends, delivering sustainable and continuing improvements. I am proud to be a para-swim coach and uphold inclusivity in all areas of sport.

In the pool I believe in the importance of getting the basics right first and being a good swimmer, not just a good front crawl swimmer. All strokes and all water skills improve all elements of swimming. I teach adults to swim by feeling confident in the water and to cope with aquaphobia.

It's important that training is fun and interesting as well as bringing results and achievements. My aim is that everyone I coach finds enjoyment and a healthy lifestyle through their sport and to continue swim because they enjoy it.

In open water my aim is to keep swimmers relaxed and to reduce any anxieties they may have about being in that environment. It’s important to set in place good breathing techniques and take the time to acclimatise properly. My initial focus with all swimmers is to make these processes second nature. It can be difficult to remove fears/phobias but we can change how we react to them and learn to reframe them.
